Frequently asked questions
How do I set-up counselling sessions?
We accept self referrals as well as referrals from many orgaizations in our community. Just click on this link to Connect Now.
What will the first session consist of?
During your initial session we will discuss your hopes and goals and the jounry that brought you to this moment in time. We will discuss a plan of care and what additional resources you may qualify for based on your unique situation. Whenever possible we believe in supporting people to connect with all available resources.
What if I can’t afford many sessions?
During your initial session we will review your available benefits and how to claim these benefits. We will also assess what local resources as well as Provincial and Federal programs you may qualify for. Our hope is to assist each client to access counselling even if it isn’t provided by us.
What if my child or youth refuses to meet you?
At Rites of Passage Counselling we believe it is our role to find a way to connect with each child or youth on their level. We are happy to travel to a location where your child or youth feels safe to connect.
I’m afraid that counselling will make things worse, is this possible?
Many people fear that their upsetting emotions and behaviours will increase if they initiate counselling. At Rites of Passage Counselling we use a Trauma Informed approach to minimize and contain your response to the counselling process so that you may continue to function in your daily life. As you develop more tools and strategies you will find a greater ability to cope and manage your emotions.
